Global emissions from energy increased by 410 million tonnes, or 1.1%, in 2023 to 37.4 billion tonnes, striking a record hight
Global energy-related emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) hit a record high last year, driven partially by increased fossil fuel usage in nations where dryspells obstructed hydropower production, International Energy Agency (IEA) stated on Friday.
Steep cuts in CO2 emissions, generally from burning fossil fuels, will be required in the coming years if targets to limitation a worldwide increase in temperaturelevels and avoid runaway environment modification are to be fulfilled, researchers have stated.
“Far from falling quickly – as is needed to fulfill the international environment objectives set out in the Paris Agreement – CO2 emissions reached a brand-new record high,” the IEA stated in a report.
