Jennifer Lawrence Just Hard-Launched the It Jacket of 2025

Move over, barn jacket. There’s a new lightweight coat in the game, and it’s about to take over as the “It” piece for 2025—Jennifer Lawrence herself hath declared it so. The actor was photographed in West Hollywood on January 2 wearing her go-to off-duty staples—wide-leg pants and a baggy white tee—with a baby-pink cropped cocoon coat thrown casually over top.

Per Daniel Rodgers at British Vogue, the jacket looks to be vintage Balenciaga, from Nicholas Ghesquière’s fall/winter 2006 collection. Though it was originally shown on the runway as part of a buttoned-up two-piece set, Lawrence skipped the matching skirt, and instead let the coat hang open around her pregnant belly, the front placket fully exposed. (The actor is currently expecting her second child with her husband, Cooke Maroney.)

GUMU

Unlike its more masculine counterparts, including the chore coat or the denim jacket, the cropped cocoon coat offsets its boxy shape with feminine details, like oversized, covered buttons, a stand-away collar, and curvy sleeves which are cropped just above the wrist. Similar to barrel-leg jeans, the horseshoe shape is widely flattering and more versatile than you might think. Let Jennifer Lawrence convince you, you don’t need to have a “twee” bone in your body in order to pull off this style.

If you’re not yet sold on the cropped cocoon coat, the collarless tweed jacket is a super popular alternative for spring. Brands like Anine Bing and Theory sell their own versions of the style for under $500, while Abercrombie & Fitch and J.Crew offer more affordable options.
