Lionel Messi was not delighted that brand-new MLS guidelines sidelined him for 2 minutes following an injury scare in the veryfirst half of Inter Miami’s 3-2 Saturday night win over Montreal.

“These types of guidelines…it’s going bad,” Messi stated, per ESPN’s Lizzy Becherano.

Messi’s remarks, initially made in Spanish, were made as the Inter Miami star turned to the cam and shook his head over being sidelined.

Inter Miami coach Gerardo Martino concurred after the videogame that the guideline “must be modified,” per Becherano.

Messi went down clutching his left knee in the 40th minute after being fouled by Montréal protector George Campbell. After being looked at by medical personnel, Messi got up and strolled to the sideline.

According to the MLS rulebook for the 2024 season, “If the referee stops play due to a prospective gamer injury in which the gamer stays on the ground for more than 15 seconds and the medical personnel getsin the field of play, the gamer might be needed to leave the field of play for 2 minutes.”

This two-minute duration starts when the ball is back in play, according to the guidelines.

This does not use if the injury is triggered by a nasty that resulted in a yellow or red card, according to the rulebook, however Campbell did not get either.

This guideline is indicated to provide “medical personnels time to reward gamers, while likewise permitting match play to resume rapidly,” according to the league.

But Martino revealed disappointment that absence of a yellow card on Campbell affected Messi’s capability to play.
