Oct. 16 (UPI) — Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. dropped a nationwide public vacation marking the 1986 People Power Revolution that ended the two-decade-long dictatorship of his late dad, Ferdinand E. Marcos, from a federalgovernment calendar.
The Feb. 25 vacation was left out of a federalgovernment pronouncement of the dates of 18 routine and “special non-working days” that will be formally observed in 2024, according to a declaration released Friday by the state-owned Philippine News Agency.
The yearly vacation which usually sees marches and rallies by political rights activists and survivors of 14 years of martial law under Marcos was leftout from the 2024 list since it falls on a Sunday, which is a non-working day in the nation.
“The Office of the President preserves regard for the celebration of the EDSA [Epifanio de los Santos Avenue] Revolution. However, it was not consistedof in the list of unique non-working days for the year 2024 duetothefactthat Feb. 25 falls on a Sunday,” Marcos’ workplace stated in a declaration.
“There is verylittle socio-economic effect in stating thi
