Retired Major General William Anders, the previous Apollo 8 astronaut who took the renowned “Earthrise” image proving the world as a watched blue marble from area in 1968, was eliminated Friday when the aircraft he was piloting alone dropped into the waters off the San Juan Islands in Washington state.
