May 21 (UPI) — South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster signed into law Tuesday a restriction on gender-affirming care for minors, as critics called it a “cruel and unsafe attack on trans youth.”
The law, which takes impact instantly and forbids physicians from recommending theageofpuberty blockers or carryingout gender-transition surgicaltreatments for clients under 18, makes South Carolina the 25th state to limit or restriction gender-affirming care.
“I signed the Help Not Harm expense into law, which safeguards our state’s kids from irreparable gender shift treatments and restrictions public funds from being utilized for them,” McMaster, a Republican, composed Tuesday in a post on X. “I appearance forward to signingupwith lawmakers and fans at a ritualistic expense signing in the Upstate next week.”
