I’ve always admired people who can pull off a cozy dinner party at the drop of a hat. Meanwhile, just getting through the day feels like an achievement—never mind hosting with whatever’s in my fridge. Still, I’d love to have something warm and welcoming, like fresh-baked cookies, ready for surprise guests or a spontaneous family hangout.
Cue The Cookie Tray by Souper Cubes: the secret to fresh-baked cookies in minutes (or however long your oven needs to do its thing). From the brand behind the ingenious silicone freezer trays comes a game-changer made specifically for cookie dough—no flopping, no mess-making.
I recently treated myself to one of the cookie dough freezer trays. Here’s how it’s been going.

What is The Cookie Tray by Souper Cubes?
Mary Henn for Taste of Home
The Cookie Tray (actually two trays with two airtight lids) is designed to freeze cookie dough in perfect proportions for homemade cookies on the fly. The tray has a reinforced steel rim, so it doesn’t flop and fold while you’re trying to use it, plus the food-grade silicone is BPA-free, dishwasher-safe and oven-safe up to 415 degrees Fahrenheit.
The tray is 11-3/4 inches long, 5-3/4 inches wide and just 1 inch thick, so it doesn’t take up too much precious freezer space. Each tray has 10 wells that resemble a #40 cookie scoop. Each well holds about 1-1/2 tablespoons of dough, which converts to about a 2-1/2-inch cookie once baked.
The design of the cookie dough freezer trays prevents freezer burn and allows for easy stacking, too. The Cookie Tray is great for freshly baked cookies on demand, without the hassle of thawing or measuring dough. The trays aren’t just for cookies, either. You could use them for other small-batch baking ventures, frozen fruit bites, baked egg bites, oatmeal bites and other freezable foods.
How We Tested It
Mary Henn for Taste of Home
I ordered The Cookie Tray by Souper Cubes from Amazon, and in true Prime style, it was at my doorstep the next day. Right out of the box, I was impressed. The trays are firm and sturdy, not flimsy like some silicone molds that don’t hold their shape. The lids fit snugly for a tight seal, and the clear tops make it easy to see what’s inside without opening them. They get bonus points for the fun purple color and sprinkle design—super cute!
Before using, I gave each cookie dough freezer tray and respective lid a good hand-wash. The wells are wide enough to scrub easily with a dish brush and spaced far enough apart to clean around and underneath with no problem.

For my first test, I went with pecan meltaway cookies. They’re light and summery, and I had everything I needed in my pantry. Plus, I know from experience that freezing this dough can be tricky. If you refrigerate or freeze the dough before shaping, it turns into a rock. Pre-shape them, and you risk the balls sticking together if they’re not stored properly in the freezer.

I wanted to see if The Cookie Tray could solve that. It totally did. I rolled my freshly made dough into balls, dropped them into the tray, snapped the lid on and slid them into the freezer. The lid did flatten them just a bit, but nothing major. They still looked spherical (and pretty) after baking. My first thought after snapping on the lid was that it should be domed or raised to fit taller scoops, but honestly, the low-profile design is what makes these trays so freezer-friendly. My freezer was already jam-packed, and I still managed to slide them into the top drawer.

What really caught my attention? These trays don’t flop. If you’ve ever struggled with silicone molds full of liquid, you know how annoying it is when they bend and spill. This one holds its shape like metal or ceramic, but it pops frozen dough out easily thanks to its top-notch, food-grade silicone.

I was a little curious as to why there are only 10 wells in the tray instead of a dozen, and I would love to see additional size and color options from the brand. But overall, The Cookie Tray exceeded expectations, and now I’m eyeing more Souper Cubes products in preparation for soup season.

Product Comparison: Cookie Tray vs. Original Souper Cubes Freezer Trays
The original Souper Cubes Silicone Freezer Trays were created for freezing leftovers like soup, and they come in four sizes: two-cup, one-cup, half-cup and two-tablespoon, with four color options to choose from. While the Freezer Trays share the same sturdy design as The Cookie Tray, they include built-in measurement lines in each well so you know exactly how much you’re freezing. Both trays are made from durable, food-grade silicone, are oven- and dishwasher-safe and feature airtight, stackable lids for easy storage in the freezer.
