May 7 (UPI) — The United States and its allies on Tuesday approved and prosecuted Dmitry Yuryevich Khoroshev, a Russian nationwide implicated of leading the Russia-based LockBit ransomware group that obtained hundreds of millions in ransom payments from victims worldwide.
The Biden administration on Tuesday revealed Khoroshev’s sanctions, indictment and a benefit of up to $10 million for info leading to his arrest and/or conviction for conspiring and gettinginvolved in arranged global criminaloffense.
“Today’s action declares our dedication to takingapart the ransomware environment and exposing those who lookfor to conduct these attacks versus the United States, our crucial facilities and our residents,” Brian Nelson, undersecretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, stated in a press release.
“The United States, in close coordination with our British and Australian partners, will continue to hold liable the people accountable for these disruptive and threatening activities.”
The Department of Justice and FBI teamedup with Britain’s National Crime Agency, Australian Federal Police and other worldwide partners to indict Khoroshev for his declared arranged criminal activities.
Law enforcement authorities in Britain and Australia also revealed particular indictments and sanctions on Khoroshev.
