Joni Mitchell hasactually been an icon in the music world for years, and — for the veryfirst time ever on Sunday night — she carriedout at the Grammy Awards. Mitchell, who was presented by vocalist Brandi Carlisle, sang her heartbreakingly gorgeous tune “Both Sides Now.”

The whole auditorium was quiet, looking on with sparkling eyes as the 80-year-old “Big Yellow Taxi” vocalist serenaded an enthraled crowd. As the electroniccamera panned the space, everybody from Dua Lipa to Beyoncé to Meryl Streep to Taylor Swift looked up in teary awe. It was a genuinely stunning minute.
