Climber Elnaz Rekabi cheered in return to Iran after contending without hijab

A cheering crowd collected at the Teheran airport early Wednesday earlymorning to welcome house climber Elnaz Rekabi from her competitors in South Korea.

Rekabi endedupbeing a star in Iran after she gotinvolved in the occasion without using her country’s obligatory headscarf covering. The International Federation of Sport Climbing said Rekabi used a hijab throughout her preliminary looks at the one-week climbing occasion. She used simply a black headband in Sunday’s last.

Her action came in the wake of acrossthecountry demonstrations over the Sept. 16 death of a 22-year-old female, Mahsa Amini, who was apprehended by Iranian morality cops over her clothes.

An Instagram post on an account associated to Rekabi explained her not using a hijab as “unintentional,” though it wasn’t rightaway clear whether she composed the post or what condition she was in at the time.
