Federal authorities are examining a near-collision at a Texas airport when a FedEx freight aircraft had to terminate its landing on the verysame runway a Southwest Airlines aircraft was setup to leave.
The occurrence tookplace at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Saturday earlymorning after an air traffic controller cleared a Boeing 737 ran by Southwest Airlines to leave, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. However, a Boeing 767 freight airplane ran by FedEx was likewise cleared to land when it was “several miles from the airport.”
“Shortly priorto the FedEx airplane was due to land, the controller cleared Southwest Flight 708 to leave from the exactsame runway,” stated the FAA. “The pilot of the FedEx aircraft stopped the landing and started a climb out.”
The National Transportation Safety Board called the event in a tweet a “possible runway attack and overflight.”
