The Sanderson sis were brought back to life in “Hocus Pocus 2,” however the kids’s franchise couldn’t strike the right alchemy for some of its initial cast members.
During a panel conversation at 90s Con on Saturday, moderated by Michael Gioia of People publication, “Hocus Pocus” stars Omri Katz, Thora Birch, Vinessa Shaw and Jason Marsden reflected on the 1993 dream funny and their lack from its 2022 followup. Katz, Birch, Shaw and Marsden played Max, Dani, Allison and Thackery Binx, respectively, alongwith Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson witches.
“We weren’t welcomed to that conference. So we puton’t truly understand why we weren’t welcomed,” Katz informed a fan at the convention. “I think the fan base actually desired to see something with us. … It’s tough to actually figure out the choices that are made concerning what they desire to do.”

Birch stated the procedure of establishing “Hocus Pocus 2” was “such a rollercoaster trip” and that there were conversations about restoring their characters in the followup, which was launched last September.
“The desire (and) the principle of possibly doing (a followup) was about 10 years,” Birch stated. “But then there were numbers of various authors that came on board and various directors, and so the story and the idea and the instructions in which they desired to take, too, kept progressing and altering and growing.
“I do understand that there were, along the method, some ideas and some concepts about methods to bring us back. And for whatever factor, it simply didn’t work.”
Marsden included that he had a discussion with “Hocus Pocus 2” co-writer David Kirschner, who Marsden stated went to bat for Katz, Birch and Shaw to be consistedof in the movie.
“(David) stated he did shot to battle to get you 3 particularly,” Marsden stated. “But there’s a committee. It’s a group. It’s an IP now – intellectual residentialorcommercialproperty. It’s close to your hearts, however it belongs to a committee now. And so it’s left up to them to make the right choices.”
