NEW YORK — Add one more product into the New York Yankees’ ever-expanding folder of “Things Gone Wrong.’’
A questionable play at the plate eventually went versus the Yankees on Sunday afternoon, assisting the Boston Red Sox to a 6-5 success and sendingout Aaron Boone’s club to its 8th straight loss.
It’s the longest Yankees losing streak giventhat August 1995, and Sunday’s defeat left the Yankees a tremendous 9 videogames out of a wild card area with 38 videogames to play.
“We’ve got to be amazing the rest of the method,” stated Boone. “But you can’t even get huge image about it. You’ve simply got to takeon the next day.
“Another one that stings,’’ stated Boone. “Especially with what we’re going through. But we’re not enabled for it to be deflating.
“We’ve got to dig ourselves out and play muchbetter and start winning videogames.’’
IKF: “I didn’t think they had enough proof”
Attempting to rating on Anthony Volpe’s two-out single, with the rating connected 5-5 in the 8th inning, Isiah Kiner-Falefa was atfirst ruled safe.
But the call was reversed on replay evaluation, and it stoodupto another difficulty when the Yankees asked whether Boston catcher Connor Wong had unlawfully obstructed the plate.
Had the call been supported, the Yankees would have had their veryfirst lead in almost a week.
As it stands, the Yankees’ last lead of any kind was the 2nd inning of last Monday’s 11-3 loss in Atlanta.
“I didn’t believe they had enough (evidence) to reverse it,’’ stated IKF. “On the huge (scoreboard replay) screen, I certainly didn’t see anything that was clear that he tagged me. I idea I got in there.”
Controversial play goes versus Yankees
Here’s how the play established:
Running from veryfirst base with 2 out, Kiner-Falefa was waved house by 3rd base coach Luis Rojas as left fielder Rob Refsynder slipped on the outfield grass fielding Volpe’s base hit off Chris Martin.
The Yankee Stadium outfield yard hasactually been soft and spongy all week, potentially due to short-term stands built for the Jonas Brothers performances last weekend.
Refsnyder rushed up and passedon to Trevor Story, whose toss beat IKF, who made a straight slide to the plate.
Umpire Junior Valentine called IKF safe, however the Red Sox rightaway challenged the call, followed by a prolonged evaluation.
From his vantage, Boone wasn’t sure whether IFK was safe or out in genuine time.
“I’m sure they have proof’’ validating the out call, stated Boone. In a declaration by the MLB replay manager, it was “definitively figuredout that the catcher tagged out the runner previous to the runner touching house plate.’’
