We’re now just over one week away from Colorado football’s first bowl game since 2020.
Led by head coach Deion Sanders and recent Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, the Buffs will battle the BYU Cougars in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28. Colorado is looking for its first bowl game win in 20 years, which would also give the Buffs their first 10-win season since 2016.
Equally as important, Coach Prime wants to send Colorado’s seniors off the right way. Those preparing for their final college game include wide receivers Will Sheppard, LaJohntay Wester and Jimmy Horn Jr., quarterback Shedeur Sanders, linebacker LaVonta Bentley, safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig and others. Hunter, a projected top-five NFL draft pick, is also expected to ride off into the San Antonio sunset.
Here’s what some of Colorado’s top players are saying about facing BYU in the Alamo Bowl:

“We got to go out there and attack that game like every other game,” Bentley said. “I want another shutout. Defense, we got to do our thing, play fast and physical.”

“Every game is a big game, especially at this time of the year,” Bentley said. “Not making it last year, that was kind of tough. Getting back to one, that’s always great because those games is what most of the fans want to watch and see. We’re just blessed to be in that position.”

“I don’t think it’s a challenge,” McKinney said. “We’re still locked in. We know what the mission is, to finish the season strong and everything. It’s really no challenge, it’s just a little break from actually playing games in consecutive weeks. We know the main mission.”

“It’s a little vacation I would kind of say, but it’s still a business trip at the end of the day,” McKinney said. “We’re still out here with your guys playing another game that we got to be thankful for.”

“A very sound team, a very technically sound team,” McKinney said. “They’re gonna do their job, they’re gonna execute what their coaches are calling and everything. We just got to be more disciplined than them.”

“(I went) four seasons in a row without going to one, and then my last season ever going to one, and one of the biggest ones that’s not the College Football Playoff, it’s a great feeling,” Sheppard said.

“Playing in the bowl game, it’s my first one, it’s my first year, so I love it,” Miller said. “But that’s not the ultimate goal. The ultimate goal is to win the national championship, and we still haven’t (gotten) there yet.”

“Our expectation is to dominate,” Miller said. “That’s what we talk about in our room. Our motto is S.O.B, and that’s stand on business. We’re gonna dominate. We know what we gotta do to win this game. We’re gonna take it play-by-play.”
