ZVECAN, Kosovo — The NATO-led peacekeeping force stated on Monday that 25 of its soldiers were hurt in clashes with ethnic Serbs in northern Kosovo after they attempted to take over the workplaces of one of the towns where ethnic Albanian mayors took up their posts last week.
The Serbs clashed with NATO soldiers and Kosovo authorities in the town of Zvecan, 45 kilometers (28 miles) north of the capital. The soldiers fired tear gas and stun grenades to secure the Kosovar officers and disperse protesters, according to witnesses. “Several soldiers of the Italian and Hungarian KFOR contingent were the subject of unprovoked attacks and continual injury injuries with fractures and burns due to the surge of incendiary gadgets,” stated the NATO peacekeepers in a declaration.
Some Kosovo cops cars and one belonging to reporters were harmed and sprayed with Serb nationalist signs.
Addressing the country late Monday, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated he would invest the night with his soldiers on the border with Kosovo who were positioned on the greatest state of alert on his orders last week. He stated 52 Serbs were hurt in the clashes, 3 seriously, and 4 were apprehended.
“The effects (of the clashes) are huge and tomb and the sole perpetrator is (Kosovo Prime Minister) Albin Kurti,” stated Vucic. He referred to the Albanian forces in the north Kosovo as “occupiers.”
“I repeat for the last time and I ask the global neighborhood to make sure Albin Kurti sees factor,” Vucic stated. “If they wear’t, I am scared it will be too late for all of us.”
