Amazon’s self-driving robotaxi system is being examined by the U.S. federalgovernment’s highway security company after 2 of its automobiles braked unexpectedly and were rear-ended by motorcyclists

DETROIT — Amazon’s self-driving robotaxi system is being examined by the U.S. federalgovernment’s highway security company after 2 of its cars braked allofasudden and were rear-ended by motorcyclists.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated in files published on its site Monday it will assess the automated driving system established by Zoox.

Both crashes included Toyota Highlander SUVs with self-governing driving innovation. They tookplace throughout the daytime hours, and the motorcyclists suffered small injuries. In both cases, the company validated that each of the Amazon cars was operating in self-governing mode leading up to the crashes.

The company stated the probe will focus on the efficiency of the business’s automated driving system throughout the crashes, as well as how it acts in crosswalks around pedestrians and other susceptible roadway users.
