SAN FRANCISCO — Disgraced Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes appears to be quickly bound for jail after an appeals court Tuesday turneddown her quote to stay totallyfree while she attempts to reverse her conviction in a blood-testing scam that brought her shortlived popularity and fortune.
In another judgment provided late Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Edward Davila bought Holmes to pay $452 million in restitution to the victims of her criminalactivities. Holmes is being held collectively accountable for that quantity with her previous enthusiast and top Theranos lieutenant, Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, who is currently in jail after being foundedguilty on a morecomprehensive variety of felonies in a different trial.
The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals choice on Holmes’ effort to prevent jail comes almost 3 weeks after she released a last-minute legal maneuver to hold-up the start of her 11-year sentence. She hadactually been formerly purchased to surrender to authorities on April 27 by Davila, who sentenced her in November.
Davila will now set a brand-new date for Holmes, 39, to leave her existing house in the San Diego location and report to jail.
