BISMARCK, N.D. — A brand-new case of livestock anthrax hasactually been verified in southwest North Dakota’s Grant County, taking the number of cases in the state to 25 this year, according to state farming authorities.
It’s the veryfirst case reported in the state giventhat August, all in Grant County and surrounding Hettinger and Adams counties, the North Dakota Department of Agriculture stated in a news release Thursday. Those cases have led to about 170 livestock deaths, North Dakota State Veterinarian Dr. Ethan Andress informed The Bismarck Tribune.
While it’s uncommon to see a case so late in the year, Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring stated, the location hasactually seen abnormally moderate weathercondition justrecently that hasactually enabled livestock to stay on pastureland where anthrax prospers.
