CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia, which has the greatest rate of adult cigarette usage in the country, endedupbeing the 12th state to restriction cigarettesmoking in cars with kids present under a costs signed by Republican Gov. Jim Justice on Friday.

But lawbreakers can just be fined up to $25 if they’re pulled over for another offense. Smoking with kids present cannot be the primary factor a motorist is stopped.

About 22% of West Virginia grownups smoked in 2021, the newest year readilyavailable, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC states there is no safe level of directexposure to pre-owned smoke.

Justice didn’t remark on the costs, which was amongst 15 he signed Friday. West Virginia’s 60-day legislation session ended on March 9.
