ROME — Workers in Italy’s struggling vehicle sector are holding a nationwide strike on Friday for the veryfirst time in 20 years, with a huge presentation crossing the center of Rome.

Tens of thousands automobile employees marched through the capital’s streets, waving the unions’ red flags and holding banners asking for muchbetter work conditions.

“We are working one to 2 days a week when it goes well. So, what we are stating today is that the (ecological) shift cannot be solely paid for by the employees,” stated Riccardo Falcetta, agent of the UIL metalworker union in Bari.

The sector’s 3 primary unions in Italy are asking the federalgovernment to safeguard work in the sector and relaunch the future of the carmaking market in Italy, start with international carmanufacturer Stellantis.
