ANCHORAGE, Alaska — After lithium-ion batteries burned in a big freight ship’s hold for a number of days, the U.S. Coast Guard stated late Saturday that the fire was out and directed the ship to anchor near Dutch Harbor, Alaska.

The 19 team members of the ship, Genius Star XI, were unscathed and servicetechnicians from the Salvage and Marine Firefighting group stay onboard to guarantee the fire doesn’t return, according to a Coast Guard press release.

“This safeguarded anchorage … will enable the vessel to remain steady, reducing threat of any re-flash of the fire as we continue our action,” Capt. Chris Culpepper stated in the press release, which stated an examination into the fire’s origins will start when reaction efforts wrap up.
