Publisher of USA Today, other documents axes personnel to cut expenses

Newspaper publisher Gannett Co. validated Friday that it’s laying off some of its newsroom personnel, part of a cost-cutting effort to lower costs as its profits fallsapart amidst a decline in advertisement sales and client memberships.

The McLean, Virginia-based business decreased to supply information about the number of individuals losing their tasks. In a declaration, Gannett representative Lark-Marie Anton mentioned a requirement “to take swift action provided the difficult financial environment. These staffing decreases are extremely challenging, and we are grateful for the contributions of our leaving coworkers.”
