HOUSTON — Fire emerged at a petrochemical plant in the Houston location Friday, sendingout 9 employees to a healthcenter and triggering a big plume of smoke noticeable for miles.

Emergency responders were called to aid around 3 p.m. at the Shell center in Deer Park, a residentialarea east of Houston. The city of Deer Park stated in an advisory that there was no shelter-in-place order for homeowners.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated earlier in the day that 5 contracted staffmembers were hospitalized for preventive factors, including that they were not burned. He stated they were taken to a medicalfacility due to heat fatigue and distance to the fire.

Shell Deer Park authorities stated on Twitter Friday night that they were continuing to respond to the fire, all employees were accounted for and 9 employees hadactually been launched after goingthrough preventive medical examinations.

Nothing blewup, Gonzalez stated, although the constable’s workplace atfirst reacted to emergencysituation calls stating there was an surge.
