LAS VEGAS — The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is offering a $100,000 yearly sponsorship to each Aces gamer for this season and 2025.
The WNBA is examining whether the sponsorships are enabled.
This isn’t the Aces veryfirst confrontation with the league over the last coupleof years. Last year, the WNBA suspended Aces coach Becky Hammon for 2 videogames and took away the Aces’ 2025 first-round draft choice since the franchise breached league guidelines concerning impermissible gamer advantages and office policies.
The sponsorship does not breach the WNBA’s income cap since the Las Vegas authority did not manage it with the club. But other groups are mostlikely to raise concerns about the fairness of the sponsorship and whether it breaks the spirit of the cap guidelines.
The authority published a video on X of president and CEO Steve Hill informing the gamers in the locker space the news on Friday.
“The Aces haveactually been on an historical run — two-time world champs,” Hill stated on the video before notifying the gamers. “We’re here to do something historical with them, too.”
