US President Donald Trump has granted Nvidia Corp. permission to ship its H200 Artificial Intelligence chips to China on Monday, days after CEO Jensen Huang had visited the White House.
However, this approval comes with a 25% surcharge on total sales. Trump also said that he informed Chinese President Xi Jinping about this decision, who responded favourably to it. The approval also applies to AMD and Intel, as per Trump, and will only be to “approved customers.” He did not specify who these “approved customers” are.
The more advanced Blackwell chips and the upcoming Rubin versions are not part of this approval.
