(Reuters) -Members of the boards of directors supervising the Chicago and New York Federal Reserve banks voted in favor of lowering by a quarter portion point the main bank’s discountrate rate throughout July, according to conference minutes launched on Tuesday.
The Fed stated in a press release that while 10 of the 12 local Fed banks desired to preserve the discountrate rate at 5.5% in votes taken last month, the Chicago and New York Fed directors desired that loaning rate to relocation down to 5.25%.
The discountrate rate is what deposit-taking banks pay to obtain straight from the main bank. It is a rate that is typically set in relation to where the main bank’s interest rate target variety is likewise set.
