It was a quote that sentout shock waves throughout the college football universe.
Less than 2 weeks ago, Deion Sanders appeared on CBS’ 60 Minutes and was asked if he would thinkabout leaving Jackson State, where he presently coaches, for a Power 5 program.
“I’m gonna have to amuse it,” Sanders stated. “Straight up. I’d be a fool not to.”
Since being called Jackson State’s head coach back in September 2020, Sanders boasts a 22-5 (.815) record — consistingof a 15-2 (.882) conference mark — making him Southwestern Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors last season.
Whether Sanders selects to stay at JSU beyond this season stays up in the air, however college football minds throughout the country naturally consider where “Coach Prime” may be training next.
On the mostcurrent episode of “The Number One College Football Show” podcast, FOX Sports college football expert RJ Young touched on anumberof prospective landing areas for Sanders, priorto sharing what he believes the perfect relocation is for the young coach.
On Sanders training at Miami (FL):
“I think that’s a excellent option, on par with USC. It’s a personal organization that cares about its football, and it’s one on which Deion Sanders would have the South Florida recruiting location to his benefit. This is a male that hasactually been truly excellent in recruiting over the last couple of years. … [Miami] doesn’t appear to understand how to get out of its method here giventhat2002 Maybe Deion Sanders might getridof that.”
On Sanders training at Auburn:
“I puton’t think that Auburn is a great football task. … I puton’t see it as a location that would actually let Deion Sanders be Deion Sanders, which is what you would be employing. If you desire to keep the manages at Auburn, that’s not your male. I believe it’s good to be discussed, however I would turn that task down.”
On Sanders remaining at Jackson State:
“I think that this is the relocation in2023 I wear’t think that Deion Sanders is going anywhere. I believe he will be training at Jackson State next year and maybe continue this run of unbeaten football in a brand-new age for Jackson State.
“I’m excellent with Deion Sanders being at Jackson State duetothefactthat of the great he can do. There are lots of gamers who he can impact, who he can modification their profession courses simply by being linked to them. … If he can extend those sorts of connections with the gamers on that lineup, my goodness, he might modification the fortunes of a university that is up versus it. For you to be able to be Deion Sanders where you are, and turn this thing into the kind of program that individuals are happy of, that fundamentally has to mean more.”
On if Sanders does pick to leave Jackson State:
“If you are going to leave Jackson State, please do not leave for anything less than Alabama. Nick Saban is going to coach for as long as he’s gonna at Alabama, however then I would state to Deion Sanders, ‘Hey, we have a area for you if you desire it, duetothefactthat we have the resources and the fan base to let you go win.’
“You have to be looking at programs on that level. And right now, all the programs that are on that level — where you have the monetary and fan base support that you would requirement to contend for nationwide champions — are taken. We’re gonna be sitting here and wait through 2023 and potentially 2024, or even 2025, for Deion Sanders to simply run it up upuntil such a task comes open.”
