The United States guys’s nationwide group certainly didn’t get the outcome it desired on Monday, when the Americans played their World Cup opening match versus Wales at Al Rayyan Stadium, ending in a 1-1 draw. However, that doesn’t always mean that the USA played a bad videogame.
Here are 3 positives from the USMNT’s loss to Wales from “World Cup Now” experts Jimmy Conrad, Sacha Kljestan and Warren Barton.
1. Barton: It was a videogame of 2 cutsinhalf
There were a lot of positives in the veryfirst half, and perhaps what was stated in the halftime talk [gave them] the stateofmind that you believe this videogame is won. Unfortunately, we understand in this videogame, you take your eye off of the ball, and you draw the videogame. I idea they played really, extremely well in the veryfirst half.
2. Kljestan: Tim Ream was strong
I idea he made a lot of wonderful protective plays, consistingof a couple of times when balls were coming at him quick, and he simply carefully headed them back to Matt Turner to keep ownership for the group. His experience revealed, and I idea he was really good.
3. Tim Weah was the right man to begin
He offers us some depth. He provides us an choice in behind. I feel like our No. 9s like to check back to the ball. We even see it on the objective with Josh Sargent: He’s nearly in the midfield, he chests it back to Christian Pulisic and that opens the defense from Wales. Now Tim Weah can get into those channels, and he did it more than when.
