May 4 (UPI) — An AI-piloted speculative fighter provided Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall a look of the future throughout a fairly low-speed presentation flight this week.
Kendall was aboard the VISTA X-62A speculative craft Thursday at Edwards Air Force Base in California when it carriedout numerous tactical maneuvers while reacting to simulated aerial hazards to program off its self-governing abilities, the Air Force revealed.
The presentation flight remained at the subsonic speed of about 550 milesperhour while Kendall and a security pilot kept their hands off of the airplane’s handbook control systems.
“The capacity for self-governing air-to-air fight hasactually been youcanpossiblyimagine for years,” the Air Force Secretary said, “but the truth has stayed a remote dream upuntil now. This is a transformational minute.”
He stated the AI-piloted X-62A broke one of battle airtravel’s most substantial barriers last year when it engaged in an experimenta
