Princess Diana had no lack of unforgettable sartorial minutes and the focalpoint of one will quickly be up for auction: The frilly, pale pink chiffon blouse, total with a broad satin ribbon bow at the neck, that Diana used for her 1981 engagement picture upon betrothal to the then-prince of Wales, now King Charles III, will be offered at Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies’ Hollywood Legends auction start December 17.
The blouse, which was developed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, was picked by Diana off a rack of clothing that hadactually been curated by previous British Vogue editor Anna Harvey. The picture was made by Antony Armstrong-Jones, the Earl of Snowdon, to celebrate the engagement of the then-20-year-old Diana to the future king. The Emanuels would lateron go on to style Diana’s weddingevent gown, while Diana preserved a relationship with Harvey as a pal and stylist through the years.
In her book A Dress for Diana, Elizabeth Emanuel composed that that specific blouse was made from material restored from a gown that another customer had mistakenly stained with mascara.
“When she saw our blouse on the rack she fell in love with it, asked who had made it and was directed to us,” she composed, according to the auction listing for the blouse.
The opening quote for the blouse is $20,000, and the auction home approximates that the leading will bring inbetween $80,000 and $100,000.
