The Vanderbilt Men’s Golf group controlled when onceagain.
This time, the Commodores took home the inaugural St. Andrews Links Collegiate Championship at the Home of Golf in Scotland.
Vanderbilt beat North Carolina in the last group play medal match, 4.5-to-1.5.
“I’m extremely happy of our youngboys; they desired to surface this competition the right method, and they did, so I’m extremely delighted for them,” stated Scott Limbaugh, the head coach of the Vanderbilt guys’s golf group.
“I think we produced memories that will last a lifetime, that we’ll inform our kids and our grandchildren about, and they’ll do the exactsame, so it’s simply remarkable.”
Ben Loomis, a sophomore from New Canaan, Connecticut, got the veryfirst point for the Commodores on Wednesday. He carded a 5-over 77 in cold and blustery conditions, while his playing rival, Hampton Roberts, shot a 6-over 78 for the Tar Heels.
Unlike the Ryder Cup, the St. Andrews Collegiate is medal stroke play, significance whoever shoots the mostaffordable rating over 18 holes—not who wins the most holes—secures the point. Should the gamers tie, the groups get a half-point each.
The 2nd match of the day included Jackson Van Paris of Pinehurst, North Carolina versus Dylan Menante of Carlsbad, California. Both gamers shot 3-over 75s, as each golfenthusiast protected a half-point for their group.
Menante required to make a 10-footer for birdie on the 18th hole to tie Van Paris, who won the 36-hole specific part of the St. Andrews Collegiate.
After that cutinhalf match, Vanderbilt went on to win 3 of the last 4 matches.
