Everywhere I look, I’m being bombarded with news about remembers. Between cucumbers with salmonella, carrots with E. coli and sliced deli meats with listeria, it’s beginning to feel like a gamble every time I go grocery shopping.

Recalls do appear to be controling headings recently—but why? Do Facebook and news apps really want to make sure I hear about remembers, or has the number of cases infact surged?

In 2023, the number of remembers in the U.S. reached its greatest level giventhat the pandemic, according to FDA information. 2024 currently has more recall activity than 2023, even with a coupleof weeks staying in the year.

What is triggering the current breakouts?

E. coli, salmonella and listeria are all germs that can getin the food supply and make us rather ill—even triggering death in some cases.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states that some wildlife, animals and humanbeings are providers of pathogenic E. coli and can pollute meats and food crops. Contamination is normally spread when feces come into contact with food or water—and human providers can spread infections when food handlers do not usage correct hand-washing health.
