SAN MARINO, Calif. — In the world of fashion, coupleof names bring legacy to mind as strongly as Ralph Lauren.

But for the designer himself, who introduced his eponymous brandname in 1967, tradition isn’t top of mind. What’s more crucial, he states, is the work.

“I wear’t think of traditions,” Lauren, 83, tells USA TODAY at a supper following his brandname’s initially southern California program at the lavish Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens in San Marino Thursday night. “I truly wear’t understand about what traditions are. I go in and work extremely hard to do enjoyment, to takepleasurein what I’m doing and to be excellent and not to be dull.”

“That’s what I think in,” he states. “And to have a struck feel like everybody enjoys it and there’s an enjoyment, that’s a fantastic excitement.”

That enjoyment was palpable at the World of Ralph Lauren Fashion experience, where runway designs shownoff the brandname’s hallmark Americana style for a star-studded crowd that consistedof Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck, Jessica Chastain, Laura Dern, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Chris Pine, Mindy Kaling, John Legend and more.

In addition to rugged cowboy hats and denim, the program likewise included plenty of bright coats and rainbow-colored pieces from the Ralph Lauren Spring 2023 collection — a variety of design that the designer’s kid David Lauren states shows American culture today.

Upon arrival, stars recollected about their veryfirst interactions with the Ralph Lauren brandname and what the business suggests to them.

“Emily in Paris” star Lilly Collins keepsinmind seeing Ralph Lauren print advertisements as a kid and ripping them out to put on motivation boards.

Those motivation boards appear to have paid off: Collins wore a Ralph Lauren weddingevent gown for her weddings to Charlie McDowell last year.

“He is simply an Americana icon,” Collins states of Lauren. “I’m half-British and half-American, so I feel like there’s an ownership of that American side of me that is represented within Ralph’s collections and who he and his household are.”

Cole Sprouse remembers his awe-struck response to a Double RL shop he came throughout while a trainee in Brooklyn, New York. The “Riverdale” star took classes at New York University from 2011 to 2015.

“I strolled previous a Double RL shop and was like, ‘Oh my God, I truly desire to go in here. I truly desire to check it out,’” he states. “And then I was like, ‘This is exceptionally expensive. I gotta get out of here.'”

After the reveal, guests were dealtwith to an outside, candlelit supper on the Huntington premises.

The mixeddrink menu included an RL Royale, made with Grey Goose vodka; an old made; a ridgway margarita; and a non-alcoholic garden spritz, made with ginger, mint, cucumber, lime and gleaming water.
