The claim: Marjorie Taylor Greene purchased Georgia instructors to bring weapons

Increasing school security hasactually endedupbeing a concern for policymakers ever consideringthat law enforcement failed to act rapidly when a gunman went on a shooting rampage inside an primary school in Uvlade, Texas, earlier this year.

Recently, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., made another suggestion: equipping school kids with attack weapons.

“The kids at Uvalde required JR-15s to safeguard themselves from the evil maniac that didn’t care about laws,” she tweeted, referring to the little semi-automatic weapon that is comparable to an AR-15.

An Aug. 5 Facebook post plays off Greene’s current tweet and other declarations she hasactually made safeguarding weapon rights, consistingof those directed at shooting survivors. The post claims Greene purchased a school district in Georgia to need all instructors to bring weapons. It was shared more than 6,000 times and reveals a instructor in front of a blackboard holding a big weapon.

The caption checksout, “SCHOOL BOARD MEETING RESULTS: After today’s school board conference, Rome City Schools will go complete throttle and have armed teachers At the Order of Marjorie Taylor Greene. Every instructor will be needed to have a gun in their ownership.”

Although lotsof commenters took this claim seriously, it comes from a satirical Facebook page, and there is no fact to it. Rome City Schools has not made any policies associated to equipping instructors, according to the school district’s interim superintendent.

The post is satirical

City of Rome, GA & Floyd County, the Facebook page that shared the post, explains itself as “completely satirical” in the about area of its page.

“Not associated with any federalgovernment firm. This page is entirely satirical,” it checksout.

The Facebook page frequently shares satirical posts about Greene, and USA TODAY justrecently unmasked another post by City of Rome, GA & Floyd County that declared the Republican lawmaker tweeted a message about Jesus and the American Revolution on July 4.

Nevertheless, several users thought the post was genuine.

“Who is supplying those improperly paid, under valued (sic) instructors their weapons? This is a dish for catastrophe, duration,” one remark checksout.

“What a silly choice! Greene shouldn’t have the authority to ORDER anything however a cheeseburger!” another remark checksout.

But there is no proof that Greene ever provided an order to schools, and as a congresswoman, she does not have the authority to make any such decree. 

In addition, Rome City Schools does not permit instructors to bring guns  at its schools.
