A federal jury foundedguilty a retired New York authorities officer, Thomas Webster, of attacking an officer throughout the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.
WASHINGTON – A retired New York cops officer was foundedguilty Monday in a federal trial of attacking a authorities officer in the Capitol attack Jan. 6, 2021.
Thomas Webster, 56, of Goshen, New York, is a Marine veteran and retired 20-year New York Police Department officer who served in then-Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s security information. Webster was the second previous authorities officer to face trial in the attack.
Webster was charged with attacking D.C. Police Officer Noah Rathbun. Webster was taped pressing a bike rack into cops officers while skirmishing exterior the Capitol, then swinging a Marine Corps flag pole he was bring at Rathbun and takingon the officer to the ground, according to court records.

Webster, who was using a bullet-proof vest on Jan. 6, declared self defense. He testified last week he idea Rathbun was a rogue policeofficer who struck him rather than attempting to calm the fight inbetween cops and the mob.
“He’s gone rogue,” Webster affirmed about his thinking that day. “He’s acting in a way unlike other cops officers, and I’m worried for my security.”
But Rathbun affirmed he didn’t punch or choice a battle with Webster. Rathbun affirmed he began choking when Webster got his gas mask and the chin strap pushed versus his throat.
