Texas Longhorns top new Week 11 SEC Power Rankings

6 minutes, 19 seconds Read

It was a wild week in the SEC as two of the five teams tied for first place suffered crushing losses.

The biggest giant to fall was the Georgia Bulldogs, who were soundly beaten at Ole Miss 28-10. UGA now has two conference losses and it is unlikely the ‘Dawgs will reach the SEC title game.

LSU lost for the second game in a row, this time to Alabama, effectively ending the Tigers hopes of reaching the SEC title game and probably the college football playoff.

Other teams with big wins this week were Missouri over OU, Tennessee over Hail State and South Carolina over Vandy.

Four SEC teams had a bye this week.

As for Texas, last Saturday’s bye looked to have recharged the Horns and QB Quinn Ewers. Ewers had his best game of the year, going 19 of 27 for 333 yards, 5 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.

Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian gathers with his team following the Longhorns’ game against the Florida Gators, Nov. 9, 2024 at Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin.

Week 11 results: 49-17 win over Florida

Analysis: The Longhorns looked like they did for the first six games of the season. Texas dominated an, admittedly, undermanned Florida team in all three phases Saturday. Tricky games are ahead, but right now the Horns look to have the best team in the SEC again.

Tennessee defensive lineman James Pearce Jr. (27) celebrates Tennessee defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott’s (55) sack during an NCAA college football game between Tennessee and Mississippi State at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn., Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024.

Week 11 results: 33-14 win over Mississippi State

Analysis: The Vols handled Hail State in Knoxville but lost QB Nico Iamaleava in process. Iamaleava didn’t play in the 2nd half. The Vols travel to Georgia next week and will need their QB to stay near the top of the SEC.

Week 11 results: 28-10 loss to Ole Miss

Analysis: Georgia is so Jekyll and Hyde. The team that laid an egg in Mississippi Saturday looked nothing like the team that manhandled Texas three weeks ago. The Bulldogs could still get into the college football playoff, unless they lose next week to Tennessee.
