The 2022 Detroit Lions were the franchise’s most effective group in anumberof years. They did so inspiteof being one of the NFL’s youngest groups of the last 2 years.
Using a metric recognized as “snap-weighted age” from Football Outsiders, the 2022 Lions were undoubtedly rather precocious. Detroit’s snap-weighted age, or SWA, was an NFL-low 25.3 years old. It measures the age of the individuals really playing the snaps, which separates it from the total lineup age.
The defense, in specific, was very young. Detroit’s SWA on defense was simply 24.8 years old. It made the Lions’ defense the just one with an average SWA under 25.
