With the death of Becky Sunday night, Elgin’s Lords Park Zoo is down to having simply one bison left in its collection.
“It was unfortunate to hear this news,” Friends of Lords Park Zoo President Terry Gabel stated. “However, when I talked with (parks superintendent) Greg Hulke Sunday night about what tookplace, he guaranteed me the city plans to discover 2 more bison for the zoo.”
Becky hadactually been identified with arthritis anumberof years ago, Gabel stated. Staff found Sunday that her arthritic leg had fractured, making it difficult for her to get up or or stand without help.

Following a veterinary assessment, it was identified that it would be more humane to euthanize the 24-year-old animal.
It was the zoo’s 2nd loss of a bison consideringthat September, when Drew, likewise 24, had to be euthanized when she fell and was notable to get up on her own. Unlike Becky, nevertheless, Drew’s health hadactually been in decrease for about 6 months previous to her death, authorities stated.
